My dwarf hamster George has developed a lump in his cheeck. We didn't see much of him for a couple of days, which didn't seem strange because they're nocturnal, but finally I discovered that bulge in his cheek. The eye on that side of his face is bulging too as that lump must be pushing on it. He has trouble eating and has lost a lot of weight. I just got back from the vet who injected him with antibiotics saying that George has either an infection or a tumor, but that it's probably an infection. Now I'm supposed to give him antibiotics every day, either they work or nothing will. I just wanted to ask you guys who have any type of hamster, mouse or rat if anything like that has ever happened to them??

My friend had a similar thing happen to her rat. Her rat developed a lump on the side of his face/head and it turned out to be cancer.

Mhm..My hamster, Hamtaro (yes, like the cartoon) had one on his stomach, and my mother told me not to worry much about it. Next day, his eyes were buldging and he had crust all over them and he was shaking. Took him to the vet and they said he, more than likely, has a tumor. We gave him this special mineral water and foods to help ease the pain. He died the next day.

Your case may be different then mine, though. Keep giving George his meds, I hope he gets better. =)

Aw I'm sorry about Hamtaro .. mh yeah same with George, but only one of his eyes is buldging and has a crust on it, the one where the lump used to be. The meds must have taken care of that lump because it's barely visible now, but I'm taking him to the vet again because of his eye. He keeps scratching at it, because obviously it's hurting him and since it's already got this milky white color I'm guessing that he might lose it, but even that's better than losing him altogether.
Honestly, the things you do for these little guys .. and then that vet grinned at me and went "you're quite old for having a hamster.."
