I'm really into dance. I've been in ballet and tap since i was 6 jazz when i was 10-12 and hip-hop 13-14.
I absolutly love it, everything about it. It makes me happy and feel care free. any other opinions?
I have a big recital coming up in a couple weeks so wish me luck!

I, too, am a dancer. I'm just about to finish my 12th year of tap, jazz, and ballet. My recital is actually on June 10th. I'm kind of nervous now because I don't know my dances TOO well, but its better than last year. I went on stage not knowing the end to my dance. Last spring I did the musical which took a lot of time away from dance classes which took time away from me practicing my dances. This year, however, I did crew instead of cast for the musical, so I didnt miss too many classes.
I'm kind of upset with my dance studio however, for personal reasons though.

I love dance. I danced for eight, going on nine years but the studio got closed down. I wish they wouldn't have, i'm positive i'd still be doing it. I did almost every class she had as well.
I've recently tried to find a studio near where i live but so far, no luck.

Dance is my life...if i've had a
bad day i'm just like its all gonna
be fine just hold on till dance and
then you can relax and have fun.
speaking of that, have any of you
ever competed? i haven't but I
think it would be lots of fun.

I have competed with my school dance team for 2 going on 3 years now. We go to two different competitions. My freshman year I tried out and made hip-hop and pom (we took jazz and lyrical routines also) and my second year I made hip hop pom and novelty (we also took jazz which everyone thought I should have made anyways.) Then this year I tried out and made them all plus me and 5 other girls are taking a dance we learned at dance camp this year as a small ensamble. I also plan on doing a solo this year. I love competition because it is soooo fun and you get to see so many dances.

It's annoying when people say dance isn't a sport. I really like dancing and it's a lot of fun. Especially when you move a lot. That's why I prefer jazz or hip hop as opposed to ballet.

Dancing and cheerleading are NOTHING alike.
I've taken jazz, tap, lyrical, ballet and 7 years of hiphop (my favorite)!

I just use the blue gel toe pads. They work pretty well, but after a while they do get sticky. It's the worst having to peel them off your toes after dance.

Well when I was one I was taking a diaper gym. My aunt owns the studio. So I started young. This fall semester will be starting my 15th year. I take tap, jazz, ballet, gymnastics, flex, and a private tap. We also do parade stuff because where we live, we are a very popular dance insitituion, we have a reputation of being the best in our area. I love it, I'm obessed with tap, like someone says, I look forward to my private because I know it's going to let my emotions go, haha.
We don't do competitions. I don't think it'd be very fun, but that's my point of veiw on it.
And whoever said that their principle said cheering and dancing are the same, your principle is definetly wrong, I've been dancing for pretty much all my life and been cheering since I was 6 or 7. The two are nothing alike.

I teach too. What type do you teach? I teach tap and gymnastics. I had one ballet class last year, but I didn't like it that much. Gymnastics is so fun with the littler kids like 5 year olds. It's so cute

My friend Kelly was a dancer... she danced all her life, and never did any cheer leading... she just made the New England Patriots cheerleaders... so the 2 must have a lot in common, they obviously would have some differences but for the most part they are fairly similar...

the only thing is that they both take rhythem and you have to do motions pretty much i guess.. i mean they have some similarities, but it's not like if you are a good dancer you are a good cheerleader.. yet there are the possiblities of that, i just dissagree with the principle saying that i guess..
that's cool about you're friend, one of mine is going to the cleveland cavs.

yeah i've danced since i'm 2 and i love it.
i started ballet at the age of 2,
then jazz when i was 4.
then i quit jazz after 2 years haha
then i did point when i was like 10?
but then i quit ballet & pointe when i was 11 because of the studio & teachers becuse they were way strict and wouldnt allow you to miss class, without having to make it up double time
so then i joined hiphop at a country club type place
BUT NOW
i do tap, jazz, hiphop, ballet & i will start pointe again in september at the best dance school ever!
im gunna join the dance team in hs this year
& i went to dance camp for 5 nights this summer.

Ok I really don't want to start a whole new dance thread, but I'd like all the dancers to see this video of a 9 year old:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=mgQCyP5-ZBII thought it was absolutely amazing. Her pirouettes and turns are incredible and very consistant. I know I couldn't do that if I tried. I can get a clean double 97% of the time (inside and outside turns) but she goes beyond quadruples!
I'm not too amazed at her flexibility because she was a gymnast before getting into dance, so she's had a lot of practice on her flexibility. But her turns! They're amazing! I think she'd be an AMAZING ice skater! What are your opinions on this dance?

^haha wow. I can do a double and that's about it. They must of had that floor really slippery so she could do that so many times. And her spotting is amazing. Spotting does so much for pirouettes but so many dancers think it's just a waste and it won't help.

i have been dancing since i was two, i now do tap, jazz, hiphop, ballet, pointe and modern. its pretty much my life haha. but i'm on a competitive dance company in my school and we have our first compitition december 7th and i'm competing in jazz and broadway.

Well good luck Sam! My dance studio only has one comeptition class. They personally select people from each class to be in it. I'm of course not in it (my studio seems to always pick favorites). But really, I'm not in dance class for the competition or to become a professional, although it is my passion and my life. I just love doing it. I don't need motivation to dance. Dancing is enough motivation in itself for me. So really, I'm fine without competing.
Question for all dancers: what kind of shoes do you wear (for ballet, tap, and jazz)?
For me, I wear black booties for jazz:

black laceless tap shoes:

and for lyrical (ballet), we used to wear tan lyrical shoes:
(can't find exact ones but something like these)

but now we just wear our jazz shoes for lyrical.
The shoes I SO desperately want:

So tell me what you have/wear and what you want/are going to buy!

Daina, I do "jazz" (hip-hoppy jazz ;])also and wear those black booties you have in the first picture, except in brown. I also wear those blue more sneaker-y ones (except they're all black) for performances, and sometimes during classes.
