Full Version: Most dangerous sport

I was wondering what everybody thinks is the most dangerous sport out there and why... if your not going to give reasons don't bother posting. Back your opinion with something.

I know that there are all these reports online claiming one sport more dangerous then another, but they never include all the sports, just the most popular ones, so don't start the "this sport is more dangerous because this study says so" because I'm sure a study can be found that states another sport is just as dangerous if not more. Also, none of the bashing and saying something isn't a sport, just because you think it isn't, other people think it is.

Ok, my opinion.

I think that Rugby is the most dangerous sport out there. We tackle, ruck, maul, and scrum, all without any pads. We wear a mouth guard and thats basically it. Unlike American Football, when someone is tackled, the play doesn't stop, we ruck over the ball which to put it in easy terms, pretty much fighting for control of the ball off a tackle. In one season, it is not uncommon to lose half a team due to injury. Broken noses, collar bones, wrists, ankles, torn ligaments, spinal and and neck injuries, and more concussions then you can count are all common injuries on the rugby pitch.

I've always believed that free falling was very dangerous. Id be terrifed that my Parachute wouldn't open or something.

yeah, rugby is pretty harsh.

futbol (soccer) is pretty bad too. ive had quite a few injuries.

down here in the south all i hear is on and on about american football and how much more dangerous it is than soccer. please. w_-

Football IS haaaarrssssh. I've sustained most injuries from playing Ice Hockey though, so i'd say that. Considering how sharp our blades are-even though we wear padding it's not always enough.
Plus, i'm one of four girls on an all-guy team. tongue.gif
I think it's MORE painful for them sometimes...
xD

RODEO!!! Man I dunno bout America but here in Oz we've lost a fair few high schoolers. Horns going through heatrs, broken backs, trampled faces. Ugh, gross.
Lambogirl
Skeleton at the Winter Olympics is the most dangerous sport, going about 70 plus mph head first

I would say that either rodeo or boxing is the most dangerous because in boxing you are getting punched for 8 periods. The endurance and stamina you have to have for it is just amazing. I couldn't imagine getting punched while trying to punch back and stomach all the pain throughout the whole 8 periods....ugh. Also, I think that rodeo is dangerous because you are getting thrown off and possibly trampled by a bull all without nothing more than boots and jeans.

Ohhh and skateboarding is pretty bad because you see so many videos of people practically killing themselves trying to perform certain tricks for the camera. My boyfriend used to skate and he has broken both arms, chipped his collar bone and has had countless sprainings, cuts, gashes, and scrapes.

for a girl playing 3 sports in school.. and accident prone i def. see how dangerous all sports are
field hockey, might now seem like it is but im still in a knee immobilizer from my last states play off game which was before halloween
hockey, wasnt to bad even though its on an all boys team i never got seriously hurt
and lacrosse i got multiple concussions..

but i might have to agree with rugby i used to play for fun and it was brutal

To the OP, how about Aussie Rules football? I've watched Americans watch that with their mouth on the floor, because of the tackles and falls those men take, with only tiny short shorts and long socks to protect them biggrin.gif

I play squash, and just needed a knee recon as a result, dammit. I know someone who was playing squash and they lost and eye because they were hit in the head with a ball or a racket. People can be hit very easily in this sport and, say, one relatively good whack to the temple and you could be dead.

I liked the idea of rodeo, up there, and if you'd consider parachuting and sky diving sports too, there's a very large risk factor of at least injury.

It doesn't pay to play sport :| haha Hurts more than the benefits wink.gif

haha i forgot all about this thread!

Lazy... i can't say i have ever seen Aussie rules football.I think i have always imagined it to be a lot like rugby.

I'm personally not a fan of Aussie rules, really, but like...everyone here 'goes for' a team, whether they like the sport or not, generally the team that represents their state. It is fun to go see live, tho, especially when you are in the corporate seats and you have all these business men in suits around you yelling abuse at the umpires...absolutely gold.
But yeah, I remember watching it on American TV when I was over there a few years ago, and the presenter was saying "Now, grid iron has enormous padding. The American's think soccer is stupid because there's no padding at all. But Australian Rules, that's grid iron without padding..."
It was quite funny. I felt rather proud biggrin.gif

Check this out, This is called AFL hard hits, all of these are legal moves (I think). At the least, they would only have a match suspension. But I think it's all allowed.
