I don't know if anyone can help me, or has experienced this before, but My cat is probably about a year and a half- two years old. I've brought her to live with me in my apartment for 5 months. I've noticed when she goes poop in her litter box, she scratches everything around it, especially the plastic container I have next to it and the container her litter comes in. She also doesn't cover her poop either. Does anyone know how I can get her to stop scratching and cover her poop?

Kitty has always been doing the exact same thing. She poops, scratches the plastic litter box cover and leaves. I bought her a litterbox that had a proper cover over the top to keep the smell in at least. She didn't mind the top but still didn't cover her poop. I think some cats just don't care. that was my thought and since she was abandoned, maybe she didn't learn to cover her poop too?? i read somewhere that cats learn to do that from their mothers

Probably just a theory, but I've heard that cats who do that feel like they don't get a lot of attention. Thus, they leave their poop uncovered as if to say "hey, I'm still here."

Mhm, I don't think that applies to Kitty. Then again, she probably thinks being the princess 24/7 still isn't enough princess time.

I'm so sorry i can't help you...i really don't know why your cat doesn't cover her poop...i know that cats cover their poop because they don't like the smell, not because they learned to do this... you could ask a veterinarian....
